How do I become a Lion?

The first step in becoming a Lion is to contact a Lion in your home town or near your place of business. Membership in the Canton Lions Club and Lions International carries with it an obligation to render personal service to the club and the causes of Lionism. The Lions welcome anyone willing to meet these obligations.

Membership in a Lions club may be attained by invitation only and the standards are reasonably high and limited to persons of good moral character and reputation. The completion of the Lions Clubs International Membership Application (By Invitation Only) does not imply or guarantee that a Lions club will invite a candidate to join the club. A current Lions club member must sponsor a candidate and the club reserves the right to deny approval for membership. This application is not valid unless approved and signed by the sponsoring Lion, the local club secretary, the local club membership sponsoring Lion, the local club secretary, the local club membership committee chairperson, and an officer of the local club's board of directors.

The completed application must be given to the sponsoring Lion to present to the local Lions club, and should not be sent to the International Office.

As a member you will be obligated to:

  • Participate in the service aspects of the club
  • Abide by the Lions code of ethics and our motto "We Serve"
  • Follow the club objectives as outlined in the by-laws
  • Attend meetings regularly and pay your quarterly dues in a timely manner
  • Serve on committees and contribute your share of the work in our projects
    and programs to the best of your ability

You will be invited to attend a dinner meeting to meet the club members
and learn more about the club's activities
